BCI has been busy! The first half of the year is always a busy time for BCI because the company exhibits at 3 tradeshows, NSCA, NAB and InfoComm. BCI's most recent tradeshow was the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), held in Las Vegas. The show was very busy and there was great interest in BCI's products. The next tradeshow is InfoComm 2005 to be held in Las Vegas on June 8- 10. BCI's booth number is 670. Please stop by and see our Pro-AV oriented demo. • Post NAB Review

BCI had many visitors to it's booth during NAB. Here are some observations by attendees:

BCI has low prices! BCI received numerous comments regarding how low the BCI pricing is in comparison to such well known companies as Telecast, Ipetek, and Evertz. Telecast was specifically singled out as high in cost compared with equivalent BCI pricing. BCI's 1000E (SDE) and 1100 Series (HD) products were discussed as VERY LOW IN COST.

Retrofits of Broadcast facilities seem to be in full swing as the studios migrate away from analog to fully digital video types. DVB/ASI transport was requested frequently. This can be transported, without problem, using BCI's 1000E product. ATSC transport can also be accomplished through the 1000E product (ATSC Version). HDTV camera extension was also a popular request. BCI's 1100 Series is the product that can transport up to 1.5 GB/sec serial data.

BCI Product Spotlight: Serial Digital Video (SDI, HD)

The 1000E Series product from BCI was designed to transport SDI video (SMPTE 250M), but it's capabilities far surpass extension of that 1 type of video! In addition to SDI, the 1000E unit can be utilized for (depending on the model) ATSC, DVB/ASI, or most any type of serial data up to 270 Mb/sec data rates. Because the BCI products are protocol independent, the 1000E can also transport any imbedded audio, such as AES/EBU or compressed video, such as MPEG2 over DVB/ASI. This unit includes "re- clocking", which allows for long distance transport with low "jitter".

The 1100 Series (SMPTE 292M) product picks up where the 1000E product leaves off. The unit is designed to transport from 270 MB/s to 1.5 GB/sec serial digital data streams. This means that the 1100 series can be used for both SDI and HD applications. If a customer has SDI now and wants to migrate to HD later, the same 1100 Series unit can be used for both applications. In addition, these units can transport SMPTE 305M (SDTI), or SMPTE 310M due to the unit's "protocol independence".
