  • Telemundo Show 2006, Cine Video and Television Equipment

Although delayed by the World Cup Soccer Game, and presidential election in Mexico, BCI recently participated in the Telemundo Show 2006, Cine Video and Television Equipment tradeshow held at the World Trade Center in Mexico City from August 8th to the 11th.
BCI participated for the first time, together with Inviso, and our local distributor Excelencia, a distinguished local dealer handling over 27 product lines, including Avid, Miranda, FORA and BCI products. Ing. Rafael Sanchez, a senior sales staff member for Excelencia has been assigned to promote BCI products in Mexico.
BCI presented the newly released model 230i, audio/video/data over IP network transmission system. It was designed for remote multimedia studio, distance learning, audio/video/data conferencing and media retrieval and distribution applications.
Many visitors were also interested in our model 1600, a multi channel fiber optic SDI transmission system. It offers up to 4 channels of SDI over one fiber with TDM technology. It can be expended to deliver 8 to 64 SDI channels over one fiber with WDM or CWDM.
“It was a very busy show,” said Jason Chian, International Sales Manager, “we are looking forward to coming back next year.”

    Cable Services

Many of our readers may not be aware that in addition to the BCI manufactured fiber optic transmission hardware, BCI routinely supplies its customers with fiber optic patch cords, in-line fiber extension cables, hybrid fiber-copper/cables, attenuators, splitters, ribbon fiber connectors and assemblies, ENG truck fiber cables, and portable battery powered cases. Although not specifically manufactured by BCI, cabling products and accessories have been supplied by BCI since its inception. BCI wants to be of service to its customers and provide everything necessary to have a successful communications link. BCI has a number of excellent vendors that provide technically superior cabling/connectors at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, many suppliers of fiber optic patch cords provide low cost but inferior solutions. As everyone is aware, your fiber optic transmission link quality is only as good as the fiber it travels on. BCI carries a stock of various length patch cords, both simplex and duplex to adapt to the various connector types available in the field. Additionally, attenuators, splitters, couplers and cable reels with hermaphroditic connectors are also available. Custom cabling solutions are also frequently handled by the BCI team and include military/tactical fiber (TAC4) cables as well as industrial and telecom armored cabling. BCI team members have years of experience in both fiber optic connectors and cable designs that include such features as cable pulling “eyes”, plenum and non- plenum applications and Kevlar protection.
So, when you are contemplating a BCI transmission device, don’t forget to ask us about your cabling or patch cord requirements.

    Fiber Optic Cleaning

QUESTION: What is the most common reason signal loss or link failure occurs in a fiber optic transmission product?

ANSWER: Broadata has determined that at least half of all returns for repairs are related to non-existent or improper cleaning of fiber connectors for both fiber and equipment connections.
Here is the proper technique to safely clean fiber optic connectors and patch cords:
    • Disconnect sources before inspecting connector ends.
    Cleaning:
    • Always clean connector immediately prior to usage. Re-clean if the connector is exposed to air for awhile.
    • Do not use compressed air directly on the connector’s end face.
    • Use only CLETOP or optical grade alcohol with lint- free wipes for cleaning. Make sure the end face is dry before inserting the connector.
    Handling:
    • Mate fiber connector only with other connector of the same type (APC to APC, UPC to UPC)
    • Prevent connector end surface from contacting any other object during insertion.
    • Do not pull the fiber when extracting connector.
    • Do not apply excessive force when cleaning
    • Keep dust cap on when using the connector.
These simple steps will help to keep "the link light on" the BCI transmission equipment both during installation and after prolonged use.

Broadata Communications, Inc. announces it will participate in this year’s IBC 2006 tradeshow to be held in Amsterdam, September 8th - 12th. The BCI booth is located at Hall 8, booth number: 8.126.
This will be BCI's first IBC tradeshow exhibition since it spun off from Physical Optic Corporation (POC) in 2001. BCI will showcase its newly released model 1700, fiber optic digital video/audio transport system. It uses TDM technology to provide simultaneous transmission of digital video and audio and/or data over one or one pair of fibers. In addition, the model 230i, audio/video over IP network transmission system will also be presented at the show. This model features a digitally compressed MPEG-2 transmission technology, capable of providing sharper video and crisp audio with little or no maintenance.
For detailed information regarding the tradeshow or BCI’s equipment to be exhibited, please contact Jason Chian, International Sales Manager.
